Description:

Degree of Threat: Very high - high

Comments: Habitat loss including dune stabilization and exotic plants is the main potential threat. In the long term this may include disruption of natural shoreline dynamics. Sea level rise due to global warming is listed as a threat by COSEWIC. It is also possible some occurrences are sub-viable due to small numbers and lack of gene flow. Direct human caused mortality is low. Natural fluctuations may be a concern. Habitat fragmentation is a threat but its importance is unknown. It is unlikely that there is any gene flow between at least six and maybe all of the eight recognized sites.
