Plantae - Anthophyta - Monocotyledoneae - Liliales - Liliaceae - Camassia - is highly variable with much overlap between the eight subspecies. However they retain these long-recognized subspecies to highlight the extreme morphological variability and geographical patterns within the species, and recommend a detailed biosystematic study be conducted. Kartesz (1999) also recognized the eight subspecies.
