The Puget Sound Partnership, the state agency that leads the region’s collective effort to protect and restore Puget Sound, publishes the State of the Sound report every two years. 2025 State of the Sound

The Puget Sound Partnership, the state agency that leads the region’s collective effort to protect and restore Puget Sound, publishes the State of the Sound report every two years.

The 2025 State of the Sound includes information about:

  • The health of Puget Sound
  • The progress of the recovery effort

In the State of the Ecosystem chapter, we share the latest updates on Vital Signs and their indicators which track the status and trends of key parts of the ecosystem to understand how Puget Sound's health is changing over time.

In the State of the Recovery Effort chapter, we report on the progress of recovery efforts to help us understand how our region’s science-based investments, advocacy, and policy changes are helping to restore the ecosystem. This chapter also highlights how we and our partners work together to support Puget Sound recovery.

For this year’s report, we describe work across Puget Sound in ten groupings:

  • Foundations of the Recovery System
  • Preventing Land Conversion
  • Protecting and Restoring Habitat
  • Enhancing Fish Passage
  • Preventing and Removing Invasive Species
  • Preventing and Cleaning Up Toxic Chemical Pollution
  • Managing Polluted Runoff and Wastewater
  • Reducing Vessel Impacts and Oil Spills
  • Fostering Human Wellbeing
  • Adapting to Climate Change

Each grouping describes state and federal funding decisions, legislation, Action Agenda Progress Indicators, and ongoing recovery programs and their Targets.
