Formal Taxonomy
Fungi - Ascomycota - Ascomycetes - Lecanorales - Physciaceae - Physcia - Currently stable; J. Thomson, 1963. The lichen genus Physcia in North America, suggests that this may be a variation on P. dubia; however, R. Moberg, 1977, The lichen genus Physcia and allied genera in Fennoscandia and H. Kashiwadani, 1975, The genera Physcia, Physconia, and Dirinaria (Lichens) of Japan agree that this is a distinct species based on chemistry and anatomy of medulla.
