Species: Xiphophorus maculatus

Native on Atlantic slope from just south of Veracruz City, Mexico, to northern Belize. Established in Beaverhead Rock Pond, Madison County, Montana (Page and Burr 1991, reported as "Wyoming" rather than Montana); Indian Spring, Clark County, Nevada (hybrid with green swordtail; Page and Burr 1991); Alachua, Hillsborough, and Brevard counties, Florida; and Colorado; uncommon (Page and Burr 1991, Robins et al. 1991). Has been collected, but is not known to be established, in Texas and California (Robins et al. 1991).
