Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Very small, dull, yellow-brown mosses. Leaves crowded, erect, in many rows but often somewhat flattened and appearing 2-ranked, linear-subulate. Costa filling most of the subula and excurrent. Setae erect, yellow, twisted above when dry (Crum and Anderson 1981).

Global Range
Known from northern and central Europe, including the mountains of Germany and Switzerland, also from England and Wales. It has also been reported from Norway and the Caucasus. In North America, it occurs on Mt. Rainier in Washington and in the mountains of New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Tennessee (Crum and Anderson 1981).
