Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Mosses of medium size, in yellow or yellow-green, somewhat shiny mats; branches somewhat terete. Leaves crowded, loosely erect with flexuose, often somewhat secund tips when dry, erect-spreading when moist, oblong-lanceolate, gradually or rather abruptly narrowed to a long, filiform tip, biplicate at the base; margins reflexed, entire or nearly so. Dioicous. Setae red, smooth; capsules broad, strongly inclined (Crum and Anderson 1981).

Global Range
Endemic to North America. Known from southeastern Alaska, Ontario, and Newfoundland (Crum and Anderson 1981), Vermont, New York (Howard 1975). Found in also in Montana, Idaho, Washington, and British Columbia (Spribille 1998), and in Nova Scotia (Ireland 1982). Also reported from Virginia, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Quebec.
