Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Thallus fruticose, smooth, not fissured, erect or pendent, pale brown to gray or greenish gray, occasionally dark brown; branches roundish to angular, narrow, not dorsiventral; perpendicular short side branches frequent; isidia absent although isidoid spinules occasionally arising from the soralia; soredia absent; elongate pseudocyphellae present, when present often inconspicuous, long, linear whitish; apothecia lateral, the disk brown. Spot tests are important for identifying Bryoria species (McCune and Geiser 1997).

Global Range
This lichen species is known from Oregon, Washington and California. In California it occurs in The Samoa Peninsula, Humboldt County, north through the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (Oregon), Olympia National Park and Deception Pass State Park in the Puget Sound (Washington). This species is also known from one inland station 16km from the ocean in the Coast Range of Oregon (Glavich et al. 2005).
