Plantae - Coniferophyta - Pinopsida - Pinales - Cupressaceae - Chamaecyparis - Called Cupressus nootkatensis in some recent works; Kartesz (1994 checklist) and Flora of North America (1993) maintain this species in the genus Chamaecyparis. Kartesz (discussion with L. Morse 29Jul01) says he may treat this species in Cupressus in his next edition, but plans to keep C. lawsoniana and C. thyoides in Chamaecyparis.
