Formal Taxonomy
Plantae - Anthophyta - Dicotyledoneae - Rosales - Rosaceae - Dasiphora - Kartesz (1999) treats plants within the range of the Synthesis as Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda (Pursh) Kartesz. Called Potentilla fruticosa in most North American floristic literature; A. Love distinguishes the North American diploid plants from the Eurasian tetraploids as a distinct species, which when segregated into a separate genus (Pentaphylloides) becomes Pentaphylloides floribunda. If retained in Potentilla, the North American species is Potentilla floribunda Pursh; if combined with the Eurasian species and treated as a single species, the North American plants are then Potentilla fruticosa L. or Pentaphylloides fruticosa (L.) O. Schwarz. See Intermountain Flora, vol. 3B, p. 75, for discussion.
