Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Plants gregarious, decumbent to ascending, light green. Stems to 0.3 cm long, rhizoids wanting or only at base. Leaves a few pairs, distant at base of stem, becoming imbricate near apex, little changed to somewhat contorted when dry, the upper ones oblong-lingulate, acute; vaginant lamina 1/3-2/3 length of leaf; margins crenulate below, crenulate to serrulate above; costa ending just below apex; laminae unistratose. Dioicous; perichaetial buds at stem apices. Seta yellow, becoming reddish with age. Capsule terminal, solitary, horizontal, arcuate, ovoid to cylindrical; operculum rostrate. Spores yellowish green, minutely papillose; calyptra cucullate (Lawton 1971).

Global Range
Endemic to North America. Known from British Columbia, Washington, and California (Lawton 1971). Also from northern Oregon (Schofield 1968).
