Species: Hierochloe hirta

Plantae - Anthophyta - Monocotyledoneae - Cyperales - Poaceae - Hierochloe - Also has been treated as Hierochloe odorata ssp. hirta. Following Weimarck (1971, and in Tutin et al. 1980), H. hirta ssp. hirta is in northern to central Europe, and ssp. arctica (=H. odorata ssp. arctica) is circumpolar and extends southward. Flora Europaea (Tutin et al. 1980) accepts H. odorata in the narrow sense and thus H. hirta, whereas in North America the usual tendency has been to treat H. odorata in a broad sense (e.g., Douglas et al. 1994, Hickman et al. 1993, Welsh et al. 1993, GPFA 1986, Gleason and Cronquist 1991), but not Cody (1996) or Weber and Wittmann (1996a, 1996b); cf. Dore and McNeill (1980).
