Ranging from southern California Coast Ranges (San Luis Obispo County) north to Shasta County (Munz 1959) and into southern Lake County, Oregon (Peck 1961). Hitchcock and Cronquist (1973) mention a potential range for J. uncialis north of Lake County, Oregon; and Kartesz (1995) includes Washington and Nevada.
