Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Perennial evergreen ground cover plant with spreading rhizomes. Clustered flowers are yellow and produce edible purple fruits.
Ecology Comments
Berries and leaves are browsed by ungulates and rodents (Tilford 1998). Also, provides significant forage for the white-footed vole in coastal Oregon (Vance et al. in press). This plant aerates and stabilizes soils.

Other Status
Formerly considered to have partial USESA status because Mahonia sonnei was listed, however M. sonnei was delisted Oct. 2003 because it is not believed to be distinct from M. repens by FWS, so M. repens is no longer considered to have partial status.

Mahonia repens ranges from British Columbia and Alberta, Canada and south through California, west to Texas and North Dakota, U.S.
