Herb, perennial, with arching to erect stems 15-50 cm tall, arising from rhizomes. Leaves simple, 4-15 x 1-4 cm, sessile, lance-shaped tapering to a tip, alternate, arranged on either side of the stem. Flowers arranged in a raceme, terminal; sepals and petals alike, 6, white. Fruit a berry, greenish with black stripes; seeds 1-2.
