    Global Range
This ESU includes all naturally spawned chinook salmon populations residing below impassable natural barriers from the mouth of the Columbia River to the crest of the Cascade Range just east of the Hood River in Oregon and the White Salmon River in Washington; it includes spring-run, tule, and late-fall "bright" populations, naturally spawning populations resulting from hatchery introductions that originated from within the geographic scope of this ESU (see NMFS 1999 for a list of the hatchery stocks that are included), and the Sandy River population even though it includes salmon that probably have interbred with chinook salmon introduced from the Upper Willamette River ESU (1999). Not included in this ESU are populations above Willamette Falls, naturally spawned Clackamas River spring-run chinook salmon, fall-run chinook descended from Upper Columbia River Bright hatchery stocks that spawn in the mainstem Columbia River below Bonneville Dam and in other Bonneville Pool tributaries (Lower River brights), spring-run chinook salmon derived from the Round Butte Hatchery (Deschutes River, Oregon), spring-run chinook salmon derived from the Carson NFH (and their progeny) and spawning in the Wind River, and naturally spawning fishes originating from the Rogue River fall chinook program (and their progeny) (NMFS 1999).
