Global Range
Includes all naturally spawned populations of spring-run chinook salmon residing below impassable natural barriers (i.e., stream-type chinook salmon spawning above Rock Island Dam--those in the Wenatchee, Entiat, and Methow rivers); included are six hatchery stocks (spring run only), deemed essential for recovery, as follows: Chiwawa River, Methow River, Twisp River, Chewuch River, White River, and Nason Creek; rarely recovered in coastal fisheries (NMFS 1998, 1999). All chinook salmon in the Okenogan River are apparently ocean-type and are included in the Upper Columbia River summer- and fall-run ESU (NMFS 1998). This ESU does not include naturally spawning spring-run chinook salmon derived from the Carson NFH spring-run chinook salmon stock or other hatchery stocks derived from the Carson spring-run stock and their progeny (NMFS 1999).
