Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Plants in tufts, dark green. Stems simple or branched. Leaves imbricate when dry, spreading when moist, ovate-lanceolate, acute to obtuse; margins recurved from base nearly to apex; costa ending in the apex. Autoicous. Capsule exserted with a tapering neck, ribbed in the upper half when dry; stomata near the middle of the capsule, superficial; peristome single or double, the 16 teeth in pairs, erect when dry, not papillose, usually with a short preperistome (Lawton 1971).

Global Range
Known from northeastern Oregon, one in western Washington, one in northwestern Wyoming, and the type locality in western Idaho (Vitt 1991).
