Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
2 cm broad; margins undulating, downturned. Veins distinct, broad, with erect tomentum. Rhizines present, separate, stout, not long (to 7 mm); isidia, soredia, and lobules absent; apothecia lecanorine, often on the tips of upright lobes; disk brown or black; spores multiseptate (McCune and Geiser 1997).

Global Range
Circumpolar south to Washington and Alberta (McCune and Geiser 1997). Known from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northern Asia (The threatened macroclichen project 1996).
