Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Rather slender mosses about 1-4 cm high. Leaves erect and somewhat incurved when dry, erect-spreading when moist, 0.8-1.2 mm long, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, abruptly narrowed to a short acumen; margins usually recurved only at the base, serrulate throughout. Costa short- or long-excurrent (Crum and Anderson 1981).

Global Range
In North America, known from Alaska, Washington, California, Montana, Vermont, British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta, and Newfoundland. It is also known from Japan, Korea, and Switzerland (Crum and Anderson 1981). Mapped for North America by Brassard (1983).
