Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
6 cm diameter, foliose, densely pruinose, loosely or tightly appressed; lobes narrow (0.8-3 mm broad), occasionally with rhizines projecting from near the margins; upper surface white to pale or dark gray, pruinose throughout; lower surface white to pale brown or with dark tips; soredia absent; isidia present or not; apothecia lecanorine, the disk brown to black or whitish pruinose (McCune and Geiser 1997).

Global Range
Distribution poorly known: Washington, Oregon, and Idaho south to Colorado (McCune and Geiser 1997). Also occurs in Europe (Scandinavia and Central European and Mediterranean mountains), Greenland, the Canary Islands (The threatened macrolichen project 1996).
