Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
Dark green to black, tufted to pendant moss, 2-10cm long. Leaf margins with a thickened, brown or blackish band of 3-5 layers of cells. Capsules resembling doughnuts or cheerios lying on their side.

Global Range
Scouleria marginata is endemic to to the Pacific Northwest North America, but relatively widespread: Washington, Oregon, Idaho; California (Lawton 1971). Also in British Columbia (Ireland et al 1987).
