Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
A small, cushion-forming, succulent perennial, averaging 5 cm across and 1-3 cm tall. Flowers, which may number up to 100 per plant, are white, cream-colored, or occassionally pinkish. While each flower lasts only a day, the plant will flower at irregular intervals over the entire season (generally from April through July). This species has become popular in the horticultural trade because of its drought tolerance. (It is easily grown from seed and there is no evidence that natural populations have suffered negative impacts from the activities of the nursery trade.)
