Ecology and Life History
Short General Description
A tall (3-7 dm) herbaceous biennial, with one to several stems from a short base. Bright purplish flowers, blooms June-July.

Global Range
Eastern Oregon, northeastern California, and possibly Washington. The var. spectabilis is restricted to northeastern Oregon; var. howellii historically known from eastern and central Oregon and possibly from Yakima County, Washington, but no current sites known. The only recently observed populations of var. howellii are located in northern California and Klamath County, Oregon.
