Global Range
This plant appears to be spreading its range. Gleason and Cronquist (1991) indicate it is found along the coastal plain from Delaware to Florida and Texas. Crow and Helquist (2000) expanded the range to include eastern Massachusetts south along the coastal plain to eastern Texas, with disjuncts occurring in British Columbia. The NatureServe Explorer website (www.natureserve.org/explorer) in March 2003 also includes inland areas of Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma with disjuncts occurring in Washington state. Even in the coastal states there are reports that it is spreading away from the coast. In New York, it has been reported as far north and interior to the Adirondack lakes.
