It seems to be most frequent in the transverse mountain ranges of southern California and along the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada up to about 1800 meters. See Thorp et al. (1983) for a detailed range map for California. It is not known from the San Francisco area McFrederick and LeBuhn (2005) and Rao and Stephen (2010) do not report it from the Willamette Valley of Oregon, but it does approach the coast farther south. It does not reach Canada.
