H - >2,500,000 square km (greater than 1,000,000 square miles) - H - This species occurs in Canada and the northern United States from the Atlantic coast westward; abundant in smaller lakes in the Great Lakes area (Basch, 1963). Burch (1989) lists Nova Scotia and New England west to Manitoba, Minnesota and Illinois in the Atlantic, St. Lawrence River, Hudson Bay and upper Mississippi river drainage areas.
