Formal Taxonomy
Animalia - Mollusca - Gastropoda - Basommatophora - Planorbidae - Menetus - Taylor (1981) considers OPERCULARIS to be confined to its type locality in California (now extinct), and CALLIOGLYPTUS as the first available name in this group instead of OPERCULARIS. Genetic examination of molecular phylogeny of global Planorboidea at the COI and 18S molecular markers indicates all North American taxa within the subfamily Planorbinae form a well-supported clade, as yet unnamed but termed C-Clade (Albrecht et al., 2007).
