Formal Taxonomy
Animalia - Mollusca - Gastropoda - Stylommatophora - Succineidae - Succinea - This might suggest that the Utah records assigned to SUCCINEA OREGONENSIS were actually SUCCINEA RUSTICANA, but this seems unlikely since, in the same publication, Henderson and Daniels (1917) reported SUCCINEA RUSTICANA elsewhere, apparently distinguishing it from the specimens that they assigned to SUCCINEA OREGONENSIS. The true identity of Henderson and Daniels' (1917) Utah specimens reported as SUCCINEA OREGONENSIS, then, remains unknown. It should be remembered that the group to which these organisms belong, the family Succineidae, is considered by many to be one of the most difficult groups of North American terrestrial mollusks both to identify and to understand taxonomically and systematically.
